Korean American history

The first immigrants from Korea came to Hawaii at the beginning of the 20th century. Later they entered the United States mainland especially California, Utha, Colorado, Wyoming, Arziona and Alaska. Most of them went to L.A. or New York. In America they hoped to find work, peace and democracy. They were farm workers or wage laborers.
1908 the immigration stopped, because Koreans were Japanese nationals and the Japanese were excluded.
When the Korean War ended in 1953 a small number of students and professionals entered the USA. From then till today ther were 150,000 adoptees.
With the passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, Koreans became one of the fastest growing Asian groups in the United States, surpassed only by Filipinos.

Vincent chin

Vincent Chin (1955 – June 23, 1982) was a Chinese American industrial draftsman murdered in 1982 in the United States, in the Detroit, Michigan enclave of Highland Park by two white autoworkers (Ron Ebens, Micheal Nitz). Ebens and Nitz were convicted in a county court for manslaughter, after a plea bargain brought the charges down from second-degree murder. They served no jail time, were given three years probation, fined $3,000 and ordered to pay $780.00 in court costs.

Radio show about internment camps

A reporter talks with one of the former inmates of an internment camp.
-Hello. How are you?
--> I'm fine thanks.
- What can you tell me about your past?
--> When I was young I came with my parents to Los Angeles because my parents worked there in agriculture. In the United States they earned much more money than at home and our lifes got better.
- Where there only andvantages when you came to the USA?
--> No. Of course I missed my friends and my hometown but we had less problems.
- But your situation changed after some time?
--> Yes, the situation changed to the bad side. When the time of the internmet camps started, I often wished to be in Japan. First they told us that wo would be in camps for only short times but I knew that they lied.
- What was life in camp like?
--> We were always hungry and restless but we still had to believe that the camps were "resettlement comunities", not prisons. The rooms were very overcrowded and there was no furniture. We were always under military and police contol. When we didn't do what they wanted us to do, they attaced us.
- Oh these are really bad conditions.
--> Yes, but now it's over and I don't really like to look back.
- Thank you!

Radio show about race riots in l.a

Radio Speaker: This morning race riots broke out in L.A. again. African and Korean Americans were arguing and the results of it were different cases of stealings an shootings. 24 people died because of the shootings. The amount of people who became injured isn't known yet. The police of Los Angeles didn't do anything against the riots. They made no efforts to stop the shootings and other terms of criminality and violence.
